Demolition and Site Prep in East Providence

I take you to our oceanfront build in Rhode Island. I’ll explain why even demolition day requires a fair amount of intention and how we are using ROCKWOOL to help us achieve our goal of a passive home.

CAREFUL DEMOLITION AND RECYCLING MATERIALS

NS Builders focuses on intentionally crafting, designing, and constructing beautiful homes. And demolition is not exempt from thoughtful consideration. It’s important to carefully separate the debris and make sure we are recycling as much as possible. For example, as the house comes down, we are removing the concrete and keeping it separate from the regular construction debris dumpsters—it will go to a concrete recycling plant. And the fieldstone will be reserved for future use in building landscaping walls.

We’ve also installed a silt fence to deal with all the dirt we’re moving around. When it rains, there’s going to be runoff, and there’s a 50-foot drop along the backside of the property. There’s a bike path down there, and we wanted to ensure that the runoff doesn’t reach that protected zone—just another aspect of complying with all the environmental controls in place.

REACHING FOR OUR GOAL OF PASSIVE CERTIFICATION

We are going for passive certification for this home, and we’ve partnered with ROCKWOOL to help us achieve that. They are guiding us through a lot of the exterior and interior insulation details. The entire home will be insulated with ROCKWOOL mineral wool products—everything from the COMFORTBOARD on the exterior of the foundation to the wood-framed walls to the roof system. And on the interior, we will be using the COMFORTBATT. There is absolutely no foam being used in this project. Choosing to work with ROCKWOOL is really helpful—in using a single-source product and allowing us to work with them on the technical side, figuring out exactly what we need.

It’s time to discover what NS Builders can intentionally craft for you! Contact us today to get started on your custom dream home. Together, we can make it happen.
