A Thickened Slab to Support Load-Bearing Walls

A THICKENED BASEMENT SLAB

The basement slab has been poured—including the built-in haunches that are in areas we needed to thicken up to support load-bearing walls. Everywhere there is a haunch, you’ll find #4 rebar that was bent through the haunch and then tied into a welded wire mesh. The result of this extra attention is that the load-bearing walls will now rest on a thickened 12-inch slab.

The foundation is now prepped and ready for framing to begin.

A HIDDEN GUTTER DRAINAGE SYSTEM

Now that the foundation is done, site work continues with backfilling around the foundation and preparing for the new driveway entrance. At one corner of the foundation, there is a green pipe above grade—this will be the drainage for the gutters. The gutter drainage system will take all the water from the roof and transport it far around to the back of the house and property where it will collect and disperse there. Keeping this basement dry has been a huge concern for the homeowner and this measure will go a long way in doing just that.
